Five Minute Friday: Here

Five Minute Friday: Here

You are here.

We see those words on shopping centre maps and in other big complexes that it’s easy to get lost in. Usually with a big arrow pointing to the spot.

Life can sometimes feel like there’s a big arrow pointing to the spot you’re in right now – where you are right at this moment.

And sometimes we question if we’ll ever get to the place we’d like to go to. When will we be ‘there’ instead of ‘here’?

It’s okay to ask the question. But what’s the answer?

I believe it’s found in Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart,
so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”

We need to focus on God and not on our circumstances. Yes, it’s okay to have hopes and dreams that are honouring to Him, but we have to be careful not to let them take the focus away from Him.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
[Matthew 6:33]

God should be number one. First and foremost. And we need to be seeking His kingdom above our own wants and needs. If we seek Him first, He’ll sort out the rest (even if it doesn’t always turn out the way we’d like).

You are here. In this moment that He has given you. Lift your hands in praise or bow your head in prayer, but seek Him, seek His kingdom, and trust that He will do what is best for all involved.

May we all grow in contentment and surrender, as we learn to truly say:

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things
I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
[Philippians 4:11-13]
